You saw me before I was born.
Psalm 139:16
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.
Picking right up where we left off – if it’s not about me and it’s all about God, that means I am not an accident. God designed every detail of my life to align with the purposes He planned for me from before my first breath.
Sometimes we hear that so often that the magnitude of this truth does not sink in.
God designed me, my race, my family, my place and date of birth, my personality – He custom-made me, leaving no detail to chance – with His purpose in mind.
You even formed every bone in my body
Psalm 139:15
when you created me in the secret place,
carefully, skillfully shaping me from nothing to something.
And he chose us to be his very own, joining us to himself even before he laid the foundation of the universe!
Ephesians 1:4a
I like this poem by Russell Kelfer included in today’s reading:
You are who you are for a reason;
You’re part of an intricate plan;
You’re a precious and perfect unique design,
Called God’s special woman or man.
You look like you look for a reason.
Our God made no mistake;
He knit you together within the womb;
You’re just what He wanted to make.
The parents you had were the ones He chose,
And no matter how you may feel,
They were custom-designed with God’s plan in mind,
And they bear the Master’s seal.
No, that trauma you faced was not easy,
And God wept that it hurt you so;
But it was allowed to shape your heart
So that into His likeness you’d grow.
You are who you are for a reason,
You’ve been formed by the Master’s rod;
You are who you are, beloved,
Because there is a God!
Question to Ponder: I know that God uniquely created me. What areas of my personality, background, and physical appearance am I struggling to accept?
